Maker Studio Propeller Set Review

There are times when I think that my daughter either plays too much dolls or watch too much cartoons on YouTube. Other than her usual study time and drawing/painting activities, I think that it is also important for her to learn how to create things while following step by step instructions. I think that it helps her develop a good sense of precision and at the same time also help her build up patience.

The Maker Studio propeller Set is a DIY toy that teaches kids a bit about how machines work.  Kids can make their own machine creations by using simple everyday objects such as chips container, cans and bottles. In this set you can make a chopper, a windmill, a biplane or a plane. After finishing a project, you can also use it to learn some engineering challenges. Kids can learn and experiment about friction, torque and propulsion.

The kit includes:
• 1 X-Linkage
• 1 Spool
• 2 Extra Long Connectors, 3 Long Connectors, 4 Short Connectors
• 2 Small Wheels
• 1 5.5" Rod, 3 4.25" Rods, 5 1.5" Rods
• 24 Hub Caps
• 1 Hole Punch
• 3 Rubber Bands
• 10 Engineering Challenges

My daughter and I decided to create a plane using the items provided by the set and a bottle of water. I have to say that although this is designed for kids 7 and up, an adult supervision and help is really needed to finish the project. Cutting holes and slits in a bottle is quite dangerous for younger kids. This project also took a lot of time to finish. This is not your typical 15 minute project. My daughter and I took about 2 hours to finish creating our plane. I have to admit that it was not easy! I guess this set is best geared for kids 9 years and up.
